Break The Yoke

Do not be yoked together with those who do not believe. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?

2 Corinthians 6:14 (CSB)

As Christians, we are living in a fallen world but have been called to be separate from it. We have commanded to go out into the world and tell others about Jesus. We are to be salt and light but at the same time, we are not to let the things of the world corrupt us. I have been guilty of “riding the fence” for most of my life. Truthfully, I still have those moments from time to time. The first phrase in Greek is Μὴ γίνεσθε ἑτεροζυγοῦντες ἀπίστοις ( Mē ginesthe heterozygountes apistois). David Garland writes: “Paul has in mind an alliance with spiritual opposites, and the image of harnessing oneself to someone who is spiritually incompatible evokes images of spiritual disaster.” What am I aligning myself with? It is a question I must stop and ask myself every single day. It also means that I sometimes have to unhook myself from things that are pulling me away.

Lord, help me to recognize the areas in my life where I am yoked to things I shouldn’t be. Give me the strength to let go.
