Living Sacrifice

Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:1-2 (CSB)

Why is it so hard to let go of the things of this world? Paul tells us to remember what Jesus has done for us and then live accordingly. When we talk about “worship” many (if not most) of us think about the songs we sing. Paul says that our “worship” is the way we live our lives. He tells us that we must not follow the patterns of this world. In his paraphrase (The Message), Eugene Peterson renders it like this: “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

Lord, help me to worship You in every area of my life. Transform the way I think and give me the mind of Christ. Let me keep in step with the Spirit as He leads, guides, and directs me.
